Or, you can relax on the most famous golden sands of Negombo beach.
Day 2 Visit Munneswaram Hindu temple
After breakfast, visit the Muneeshwaram Temple at Chilaw. Over a thousand years old and an important temple complex for Hindus in Sri Lanka, Munneswaram is one of five ancient coastal kovils called the Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva along the island’s shoreline. The temple has seen much destruction and reconstruction over the years, but has survived the centuries well in spite of it. The Munneswaram Festival is a popular four-week-long celebration and so is the Navarathri festival. Afterwards proceed to Kandy and rest at leisure.
Day 3 Visit Ramboda falls , Seetha Amman temple
After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya visiting Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Ramboda en route. Situated on a scenic mountain summit, the temple houses an 18 feet Hanuman statue - the tallest in Sri Lanka. Travel on to Nuwara Eliya stopping at Seetha Amman Temple in Seetha Eliya on the way. An important site on the Ramayana trail, Sita Amman is the only Hindu temple dedicated to Princess Sita in Sri Lanka. It is also close to the historical Ashoka Vatika, now known as Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
Day 4 Visit to Ravana Falls
After breakfast travel to Ella - a popular town nestled high in the mountains and famed for its breathtaking views. The Ravana Falls is a magnificent cascade around 25m tall and considered to be the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka. As per legend, King Ravana hid Sita in the caves behind the falls and deep within the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, the cave entrance is around 5km away from the Falls. Later in the afternoon enjoy a city tour in Ella and spend a leisurely evening.
Day 5 Visit the Kataragama Temple
After breakfast, proceed to Kataragama - a renowned pilgrimage town sacred to Buddhist, Hindu and indigenous Vedda people, with devotees flocking from near and far. The site is included in the Ramayana Trail as the God of Kataragama is believed to have arrived from India. After a scenic descent from Ella, visit the Kataragama shrine, dedicated to God Skanda (Murugan) the God of Love and War. There are also shrines dedicated to Gods and Goddesses such as Murugan temple, Gana Devale, Vishnu Devale and Suniyam Devale.
Day 6 City tour of Galle
After breakfast, head to the historic city of Galle. Its Portuguese and Dutch heritage is well present to this day. Visit the Galle Fort - one of the best preserved fortifications in Asia, the Maritime Museum, the Galle National Museum and the famous lighthouse. In the afternoon visit the Rumassala Rock - said to have originated from parts of Mount Dronagiri, dropped by Hanuman while carrying medicinal plants. Sita too, is said to have stayed here during her time in Lanka. Evening at leisure by the sea.
Day 7 Seenigama Temple , Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple
After breakfast proceed to Colombo. Stop en route at Seenigama temple set on a tiny islet. This shrine is dedicated to the local god who is said to protect fishermen and their boats. It is a significant location in the Ramayana trail. Proceed to Colombo and visit the Panchamuga Anjaneyar Temple - dedicated to Anjaneyar in Sri Lanka and the only temple in the world to own a chariot of Anjaneyar. Enjoy the rest of the day sightseeing in Colombo and indulge in some shopping too.
